  • The minimum grade required to transfer a course to Cambrian College is 60%.

  • Cambrian College awards advanced standing and equivalencies in recognition of previous learning.

    • Advanced Standing: a group of courses awarded as an exemption from a portion of program requirements.
    • Direct Equivalence: a course is given exact equivalence when the learning outcomes of a formal academic course completed at another recognized institution are deemed equivalent to a course required at Cambrian College.
  • The amount of transfer credit you can receive is limited by Cambrian College’s residency policy. The policy states that at least 25% of credits in a program of study must be completed at the College.

  • Cambrian College will consider courses completed within the past 5 years for transfer credit. Requests beyond 5 years may be assessed to ensure that the skills and competencies are still adequate. This may be achieved by reviewing the course materials, or conducting a written, oral, or skills assessment to ensure that the intervening years have enabled the student to maintain his/her course competency.

  • Follow these steps in order to receive your PLAR assessment at Cambrian College:

    • Students may contact the Pathways Officer (pathways@cambriancollege.ca) for assistance with starting a Prior Learning Assessment. Once it is confirmed that the course they are interested in is eligible for PLAR, registration will occur via the Enrolment Centre. They will be connected with a Faculty member who will guide them through the challenge examination or portfolio process.
  • A PLAR assessment at Cambrian College costs $132.74 per course.

  • Transfer credits will be recorded on your Cambrian College transcript as "TC" or “EX” for advanced standing and will not be included in GPA calculation.

  • Familiarize yourself with Cambrian College’s official credit transfer policies:

  • Follow these steps in order to receive your transfer credit assessment at Cambrian College:

    • Students must provide their Program Coordinator with a copy of their transcript and a detailed course outline(s) from the institution where they studied. Program Coordinators complete an assessment of the successfully completed course and submit their approval to the Enrolment Centre.
  • There is no fee required for a transfer credit assessment at Cambrian College.

  • The documentation required to have your previously completed postsecondary education assessed for transfer credit at Cambrian College includes:

    • Official transcript(s)
    • Course outline(s)
  • Students must submit the following form for transfer credits-

  • Apply to transfer credit at Cambrian College as early as possible after accepting your offer of admission. Although there is no official deadline, students should apply to transfer credit at Cambrian College within the first 2 weeks of the semester by meeting with your Program Coordinator and providing all documentation.

  • A transfer credit decision at Cambrian College will take 2 weeks to process.

  • A transfer credit decision can be reviewed/appealed at Cambrian College by contacting Charline Smith at 705-566-8101 ext 7465 or by e-mail at charline.smith@cambriancollege.ca. An official review/appeal process is currently in development at Cambrian College.
