Course Equivalencies Granted

Applicants who have successfully completed a Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field from an accredited institution or meet the requirements to be a Registered Early Childhood Educator in Ontario with a minimum C+  (GPA ≥ 2.5)  average are eligible to receive advanced standing credit in Sheridan’s Honours Bachelor of Early Childhood Leadership (ECL) program. Once the student has successfully completed the Bridging semester with a minimum 2.5 GPA in that Bridging semester, you'll be eligible to enrol into Year 3 (Term 5).

Students will complete the following bridging courses: EDUC 10009 Evidence Based Practices in EC Programs, EDUC 17198 Introduction to EC Leadership, ENGL 17889GD Composition and Rhetoric, and a Breadth Elective.

If you do not have an ECE diploma or equivalent: Students who are interested in obtaining this degree are encouraged to complete Years 1 & 2 through Sheridan's Early Childhood Education diploma program. Once you've received your ECE diploma, you'll be eligible to apply for this degree, entering directly into Year 3.

Program Residency Requirement

The 6 semesters are calculated per below.

  • 1 degree completion semester (bridge) that is conditional to term 5
  • 4 semesters of content
  • 1 internship (work-term)

Cancellation Policy

Sheridan has been granted a consent by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to offer this degree for a further seven-year term starting September 1, 2017 and subject to renewal thereafter. Application to the Ministry for renewal of the consent is a prescribed and cyclical requirement for degree programs at all Ontario Colleges. Sheridan will ensure that all students admitted to the Honours Bachelor of Early Childhood Leadership program during the period of consent will have the opportunity to complete the program within a reasonable time frame. Credentials earned during the period of consent remain valid, even if Ministry consent to offer the program is withdrawn in the future. Prospective students are responsible for satisfying themselves that the program and the degree will be appropriate to their needs (e.g. acceptable to potential employers, professional licensing bodies, or other educational institutions).
