  The minimum grade required to transfer a course to Collège La Cité is a passing grade at the source institution.

• Types of credit awarded

  The College offers advanced standing admissions, recognizes academic transfer credits, and evaluates requests for recognition of non-academic prior learning. For additional information, please consult the student guidelines: PED-01-03 – Transfer Credits and Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition and PED-01-24 – Pathways.

• Residency requirements

  The number of credits that may be recognized is limited by La Cité’s minimum residency requirement. According to College policy, students must successfully complete at least 25% of the total instructional hours required for their program at La Cité. For bachelor's degree programs, no more than 50% of the total program hours may be recognized through non-academic prior learning assessment (see PED-01-03 – Transfer Credits and Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition).

• Currency/timing of previous postsecondary education

  All currency considerations at Collège La Cité are dependent on the course and program in which you are enrolled.

• PLAR procedures/steps

  Applicants must complete the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition application, pay the applicable administrative fees, and successfully complete the required competency assessments (Policy PED-01-03 – Transfer Credits and Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition).

• PLAR costs

  A PLAR assessment at Collège La Cité is based on an hourly rate of $1.25. The fee is $1.25 for each course hour; the minimum cost per course has been set at $20; and the maximum cost per course has been set at $158.27 (https://www.collegelacite.ca/demande-equivalence.htm).

• Appearance of awarded transfer credit(s) on transcript

  A transfer credit appears as “EQ” (equivalence) on a student’s official transcript.

  Recognition granted for non-academic prior learning is recorded on the transcript according to the evaluation results and the grading system applicable to the course.

• Transfer credit procedures/steps
  1. Complete the online transfer credit application available under the “Forms” tab at the top of the student portal home page.
  2. To access the portal, please enter your username (student number) and your password (date of birth), using the following format: clc-yyyy-mm-dd. Be sure to include the hyphens.
  3. An administrative fee applies when the College evaluates your transfer credit request.
  4. Once you have completed the online transfer credit application, it will be sent directly to the Admissions and Registrar's Office.
  5. The deadline for submitting a transfer credit request varies by academic term. For the fall term, the deadline is September 30. For the winter term, the deadline is January 31. For the summer term, the deadline is May 31.

  Transfer credit application fee: $20 per course

• Transfer credit required documentation

  The documentation required to have your previously completed postsecondary education assessed for transfer credit at Collège La Cité includes:

  • Official transcript(s) (indicating grade achieved in the course)
  • Course outline(s) (curriculum for the course(s) subject to Advanced Standing, unless it is a course(s) taken at Collège La Cité or a course(s) already recognized)
  • Completed ‘Request for Advanced Standing’ application form
• Transfer credit application form(s)

  Complete the online transfer credit application available under the “Forms” tab at the top of the student portal home page.

• Deadline(s) for application

  Students are encouraged to submit requests for transfer credit or prior learning assessment and recognition as soon as they are admitted to the College in order to facilitate the planning of their academic pathway.

• Timing of transfer credit decisions

  A transfer credit decision at Collège La Cité will take approximately 2-3 weeks to process.

• Review/appeal procedures

  A transfer credit decision cannot be reviewed/appealed at Collège La Cité. All transfer credit assessments are final.
